Access Bank Appoints New CEO

Access Bank appoints new CEO alongside two deputy managing directors. Access Holdings PLC announced the changes in its banking subsidiary, Access Bank on Monday 28th March 2022.

It was revealed in a statement signed by Sunday Ekwochi, the group company secretary. According to the statement, the announcement came as a result of the completion of the scheme of arrangement between Access Bank Plc and its shareholders.

Following the completion of the scheme of the arrangement, Access Holdings Plc was listed as the parent company of the bank and related group companies.

Mr Roosevelt Ogbonna FCA, CFA was appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Access Bank Plc. Mr Victor Etuokwu as Deputy Managing Director, Retail North. And Mrs Chizoma Okoli as Deputy Managing Director, Retail South by the board.

But that wasn’t the only thing. Access Holdings also informed The Exchange and Investing Public of Mr Adeolu Bajomo’s resignation as Executive Director of Information Technology and Operations. It is effective from September 30th, 2022.

Access Bank appoints new CEO, Mr Roosevelt Ogbonna

In 2013, Mr Ogbonna was appointed Executive Director, Commercial Banking Division. And then he got promoted to Group Deputy Managing Director. Roosevelt has over 20 years of banking experience in Treasury, Commercial, and Corporate Banking.

In 2002, he joined Access Bank as a Manager after working for Guaranty Trust Bank Plc. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria. At the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, he is a second-class upper degree holder in Banking and Finance. 

Roosevelt is also a Chartered Financial Analyst and has completed Executive Management Development Programs at a number of elite universities.

Deputy Managing Director, Retail North, Mr Victor Etuokwu

In January 2012, Mr Etuokwu was appointed Executive Director of the Bank for the first time. Then he was reappointed as Executive Director in January 2018 after his initial term expired. He oversaw the Personal Banking Division. Etuokwu also has over two decades of banking experience in Operations, Information Technology, and Business Development.

In July 2003, he joined the bank from Citibank Nigeria. Mr Etuokwu graduated with honours from the University of Ibadan and the University of Benin. There, he earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Business Administration.

Deputy Managing Director, Retail South, Mrs Chizoma Okoli

Mrs Okoli began her banking career in April 1992 as an Executive Trainee in Diamond Bank Plc’s Operations Unit. Until her subsequent appointment as an Executive Director in September 2016, she worked in various capacities in the bank. 

In 1989, Chiozoma graduated from the University of Benin’s Law School and was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in December 1990. She graduated with honours from Warwick Business School in Coventry, UK.

Mrs Chizoma joined the Access Bank Plc Board of Directors in March 2019, as a result of the merger with the former Diamond Bank.

Meanwhile, Herbert Wigwe remains the CEO and Managing Director of Access Holdings. A position he has held since 2014, after succeeding his business partner Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede.
