About UN Youth Champions Of The Earth 2020
The program is organised by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). This arm is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda. It also promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system, and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.
Basically, UNEP assesses global, regional and national environmental conditions and trends. Also, it develops international and national environmental instruments and strengthens institutions for the wise management of the environment.
In a way to fulfill its goals, UNEP has organised the Young Champions of the Earth 2020. This initiative aims to nurture the next generation of environmental leaders. How It Works
First, finalists will be shortlisted across every region from the applicants. Then, an overall of seven young people will be selected and named Young Champions of the Earth by the Global Jury. These seven Young Champions will be selected from each region: Africa, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, North America, West Asia and two from Asia and the Pacific.
These winners will implement their big idea. They will also update UNEP on their progress by presenting videos and blogs that will be shared on its website. Also, winners will receive funding to support their communication efforts all through the year. This way, they can produce high-quality materials so UNEP can share it to its audience.
