The city of Ballarat is giving a $1 million grant package, and it’s aimed at supplementing existing funding available from federal and state governments while also supporting some of the small businesses and community groups not eligible for financial assistance through other funding programmes.
The City of Ballarat is committed to supporting local business owners and those looking to start a new business.
City Of Ballarat Grant Types
The city of Ballarat has two types of grants;
Business grants
The Business Support Grants of up to $500 are available for businesses with a significant reduction in revenue due to COVID-19.
Community grants
The Community Support Grants of up to $250 are available for community groups, volunteer groups and sports clubs with a significant reduction in revenue due to COVID-19.

Eligibility For The City Of Ballarat Grant
Business Grant
To be eligible for a Business Support Grant, you should
- Operate within the City of Ballarat municipal boundary.
- Not have an annual payroll exceeding $1 million.
- Maintain an ABN registered within the municipality.
- Demonstrate a turnover reduction of 30% or greater for a period of four weeks (can be non-consecutive weeks) since 27 May 2021.
- Not have already received a City of Ballarat business support package grant.
Applications will be assessed as they are received.
Applications will close at 5 pm on Friday 29 October unless grant funding has been distributed before this date.
Evidence of a reduction in turnover will vary for applicants. Ideally, a business will provide historical BAS statements or a letter from an Accountant on letterhead. However, in circumstances where this is not possible, the City of Ballarat will consider a statutory declaration from the business operator/owner outlining their reduction in turnover.

Community Grant
To be eligible for a Community Support Grant, your organisation must
- Operate within the City of Ballarat municipal boundary.
- Be registered or incorporated.
- Demonstrate a negative financial impact during the restriction period which commenced on 27 May 2021.
- Not already have received a City of Ballarat community support package grant.
Applications will be assessed as they are received.
Applications will close at 5 pm on Friday 29 October unless grant funding has been distributed before this date.
Evidence of a negative financial impact will vary for applicants. Ideally, a community or sporting organisation will be able to provide historical BAS statements. However, in circumstances where this is not possible, a letter from an accountant on letterhead or a letter from a senior office-bearer of the organisation (e.g. Treasurer, Secretary, etc.).
