Named Olanrewaju Christopher Olusola at birth, Lanre Olusola was born on the 30th of August 1962, to the family of late Christopher and Caroline Kupoluyi, in Ekiti State, Nigeria. He hails from Ekiti State but schooled outside Ekiti.
Lanre had his secondary education at Igbobi College, Yaba, Lagos, then proceeded to the University of Lagos (UNILAG), where he obtained a B.Sc. (Hons) in Structural Engineering and Project Management in 1990.

Olusola is an alumnus of Harvard Business School, Boston Massachusetts USA. He studied Governance for Organizational Excellence; Business Strategy in the institution.
