The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) launched a Consumer Protection Forum. This is to review customer dissatisfaction over poor service delivery on Nigerian IT products.

The Director-General of the Agency, Mr. Kashi fu Inuwa, disclosed it in a Virtual Digital Services Consumer Protection Forum webinar on the 21st of July 2020.

The NITDA chief who was represented by the Director of IT Infrastructure Solutions talked about the fact that the consumer protection forum would enable the NITDA to settle disputes for customers. However, the dispute resolution will be in an efficient way and would build innovative content for Nigeria’s ICT sector, which is experiencing real growth.

Also, presented at the webinar was the initial draft for the Alternative Dispute Resolution for Nigeria’s indigenous ICT industry.

He said the rise in complaints by customers on the quality of Nigeria’s indigenous ICT products was a catalyst to the pioneering of the forum and the resolution framework for the industry.

The agency (NITDA) urged Nigerians to patronize made in Nigeria products and also consume more local content in the industry. This will ensure regulatory oversight for consumers and producers.

There will low patronage of Nigerian tech products and services and low employment in the sector if they fail to draft such frameworks.

The NITDA says that one of its major objectives is to minimize challenges and is committed to addressing issues, due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic to the sector.
