In a significant step toward improving Nigeria’s creative economy, the Federal Government is set to launch the “Renewed Hope Creative Villages” initiative.

Spearheaded by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, this programme seeks to elevate the nation’s creative sector by providing world-class infrastructure, skill development opportunities, and platforms for collaboration.

Governor Sanwo-Olu announced the initiative during a press briefing after the 147th National Economic Council (NEC) meeting, chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima, in Abuja.

He highlighted that the Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy will work closely with state governments to identify historic locations and transform them into creative hubs.

Sanwo-Olu elaborated, “The whole idea is for the ministry to work first with a lot of the sub-nationals to identify some of these sites and very historic locations, and see how they are adopted into the creative villages, as a one-stop shop.”

In addition, emphasising the potential of the creative industry, particularly in rural historic sites and monuments, Sanwo-Olu noted, “We believe the creative industry, particularly with our rural historic sites and monuments, holds enormous potential.” He added that the initiative is expected to generate hundreds of thousands of jobs.
