The Rolex Awards were created in 1976 to mark the 50th anniversary of the iconic Rolex Oyester Wristwatch.

From the beginning, the awards were designed to fill a void in corporate philanthropy. Hence, it was aimed at supporting exceptional individuals around the world. Also, to support pioneers responding to major challenges with original and innovative projects that positively impact the world, but have no or little access to traditional funding.
Since the programme’s launch, more than 34,000 applications have been received, and 150 laureates from across the world have been selected for the award.

Apply For A 2021 Rolex Awards
Rolex will offer five Rolex Awards for Enterprise in 2021. The award is offered to anyone who is over 18 years of age, from any nationality, whose groundbreaking project is helping to expand knowledge of the world and improve the quality of life on the planet.
Applicants can apply in five areas:
- Science and health
- Applied technology
- Exploration
- Cultural heritage
- The environment

- Laureates each receive 200,000 Swiss francs to advance their projects.
- Worldwide publicity

To apply for the Rolex Awards, submit application online. The deadline for applications is 15 April, 2020.

Jury And Selection Criteria
A new panel of jury is convened for each edition of the award. The 2019 jury were made up of 10 independent, international individual, who have expertise and stature in a wide variety of field.
The jury is asked to keep the following in mind while selecting the finalist:
- Does the applicant have a spirit of enterprise?
- Does the applicant show determination, courage and tenacity in undertaking a bold or challenging project?
- Will the project break new ground or represent a new way of looking at a problem?
- And, will the project have a wide impact on a community, society or on the world?
