In 2020, YouTube launched the #YouTubeBlack Voices Fund, a multi-year commitment dedicated to spotlighting and growing Black creators and music on our platform, by giving them access to resources to help them thrive on YouTube.
The YouTubeBlack Voices Fund has welcomed over 300 grantees hailing from the United States, Kenya, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Australia, South Africa, and Nigeria since its inception in 2020. And these incredible group includes musicians, beauty entrepreneurs, comedians, activists, poets, personal trainers, parents, photographers, gamers and more.
The BVF 2022 class included 26 creator grantees from Africa. Individuals in different fields of life ranging from bakers, vloggers, animators, business owners to film-makers and more. Out of the 26 Africans, 11 are from Nigeria and they include:
- Adaeze Jideonwo (Adaeze’s Space)
- Chinyere Nneka Abang (Chinyere Abang’s Channel)
- Critics Company (A Multimedia company)
- Data Pepple
- Fisayo Fosudo
- Funmi (Fummeeee Channel)
- Chikodinaka (Hn clothings)
- Amaka (Skybelle)
- Steven Ndukwu
- Wale (TNC Africa)
- Halima Yusuf Rabiu (Ummeeta Rabiu)
The previous year being the first edition of the programme saw the announcement of the first batch of 133 creators and artists from around the world. It included musicians, beauty entrepreneurs, comedians, activists, poets, personal trainers and more. These creators went on to hit subscriber milestones, lead meaningful discussions related to Black life and culture, and pursue new businesses.
Apply to join the next generation of Black Voices Fund grantees as YouTube is currently accepting applications for the #YouTubeBlack Voices Fund Class of 2023. This program equips Black creators, artists, songwriters, and producers with the resources and supports to enable them to thrive on the YouTube platform.
