For many, particularly in his native England, Dion Dublin is known for being a former footballer who played for Manchester United and Coventry City, and earned four call-ups to the English national team.

His best year on the pitch came during the 1997-1998 season when he won the coveted Premier League Golden Boot.

Yet, since leaving football, Dion Dublin has found a new career, both as a pundit on television and as a successful business owner, setting up the property business LOT9 Auction House in 2021.

The firm supports people in the buying and selling of homes, commercial premises, and land. As well as providing practical advice throughout the process, from setting guide prices and preparing auction packs.

It works with clients to complete the sale, while also offering insight for buyers on how to approach auctions with confidence.

Success Bred on Marginal Gains

Dion Dublin says his business success has come from applying the same principles that guided his career in elite sport.

With LOT9 Auction House, he has found that small, consistent improvements, what sports psychologists call marginal gains, can make a big difference to performance.

“What I learnt in sport has really helped me in my business,” he said in an interview with The Bolton News. “Teamwork is key. Setting small, but consistent goals for my team of eight works well, as they are achievable and keep everyone motivated.”

Just as he once focused on incremental progress on the pitch, Dublin now uses the same approach to build motivation and resilience in his company. He believes that success comes not from grand gestures but from discipline and attention to detail.

That mindset also influences how he manages operational aspects of the business. Dublin emphasises the importance of efficiency and cost awareness.

“In small business, you also need to think about where your money is going and how it’s being spent,” he explained. LOT9 uses a smart meter to track its energy use in real time.

It is a practical step that, for Dublin, reflects the same small, measurable improvements that defined his approach as a professional athlete.

Swapping the Football Pitch for the Auction House

Dion Dublin’s football career began modestly at Cambridge United, where his goal-scoring instincts earned him a £1 million move to Manchester United in 1992. He was one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s early signings during the club’s rise to dominance.

He scored the winning goal in United’s first Premier League victory. Though injury limited his appearances, he returned to fitness to witness the team’s first league title in 26 years, an era that laid the foundations for United’s golden age.

His time at Old Trafford reflected the strong competitive spirit that characterised Ferguson’s early years. Current soccer betting odds place Arsenal (4/5) and Liverpool (11/4) among the favourites for the 2026 Premier League title, with Manchester United also in the mix.

After leaving Old Trafford, Dion Dublin enjoyed a successful spell at Coventry City, where he became a key player in the league.

He later enjoyed success with Aston Villa, Celtic, and Norwich City, where his professionalism and versatility, including occasional defensive roles, earned him recognition across the sport.

Dion Dublin’s path from Premier League striker to property entrepreneur shows how sporting discipline can translate into business success.

At LOT9 Auction House, his focus on teamwork, consistency, and steady improvement mirrors the principles that once drove him on the pitch. It proves that the same mindset can win in any arena.
